Peter-Paul Fransen

“Specipig clearly understood our needs and customized the whole project to what was required for the development of our technology for the treatment of peritoneal diseases. We have made big steps forward with the project thanks to this collaboration and involvement of Specipig’s team”

Managing Director and Co-Founder of UPyTher

Peter-Paul completed his bachelor and master degree in Biomedical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology. He then moved to Spain where he obtained a master degree in Nanotechnology and Nanosciences and a doctorate degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of Barcelona. His experimental work was performed at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine under the supervision of prof. Fernando Albericio and dr. Miriam Royo. His work mainly focused on the synthesis of dendrons and dendron-peptide conjugates for diverse biomedical applications such as tissue engineering, imaging and gene delivery. Peter-Paul now holds a post-doc position in the DankersLab where he works on the design and synthesis of UPy-guest molecules. These molecules are used to add functionality to either solid elastomer materials or hydrogel systems. And depending on their design, the guest molecules display more dynamic behavior in hydrogels or are more accessible to target systems when situated on a solid elastomeric surfaces. This is studied in more detail using advanced confocal microscopy and solid-state UV-VIS spectroscopy. Studying these effects is essential for optimizing the UPy-guest molecules for improved biofunctionalization of materials.
